Overview

anaphase promoting complex

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An E3 ubiquitin ligase (APC, cyclosome) that marks target proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome, and is responsible for initiating sister chromatid separation and the inactivation of cyclin-dependent kinases at anaphase. It has 13 core subunits (total 1.5 MDa) and one of two loosely associated coactivators, Cdc20 and Cdh1. The binding of cyclin A inactivates the APC during S-phase.
