A lantibiotic (16 aa) containing unusual amino acids such as threo-β-methyllanthionine, meso-lanthionine, and dehydroalanine, that inhibits angiotensin I converting enzyme. Ancovenin is isolated from the culture broth of a Streptomyces species and a similar antibiotic, lanthiopeptin, is produced by Streptoverticillium cinnamoneum.
