(1740–1817). A native of Alicante, who settled in Italy when Spain banished the Jesuits (1767). He was librarian successively at Parma and at Naples, and made his mark in Italian scholarship by compiling Dell'origine, progressi e stato attuale di ogni letteratura (1782–9), a universal history of literature.
