The gyrus immediately behind Wernicke's area that curves round the back of the lateral sulcus of each cerebral hemisphere, on the border of the parietal and temporal lobes. It is implicated in the control of visual gaze, and in the left hemisphere it has a specialized language function, lesions in this area being associated with nominal aphasia (see under aphasia).
