A kinship group, extending to second cousins, or perhaps only to first cousins once removed. In Athenian law the nearest relatives within this group had the right to inherit property (see inheritance, Greek); if a group member was killed, it was their duty to prosecute the killer. Relatives on the father's side took precedence over those on the mother's.
