the ratio of systolic blood pressure at the ankle (measured by a Doppler ultrasound probe placed over the dorsalis pedis artery; see pulse) to that measured at the brachial artery: used to quantify the severity of arterial occlusion in the leg. Peripheral arterial disease is present if the ABPI is less than 0.95.
