A congenital abnormality in which a short lingual fraenum limits the movement of the tongue (tongue-tie). It may affect breast-feeding, speech, or the self-cleansing mechanism of the mouth. Surgical intervention is usually unnecessary but if advocated is usually delayed until late childhood.
