(bc. 1753; d 1805). German silhouettist and military historian. Anthing entered Russian military service, rising to the rank of colonel. While at the imperial court and travelling around Russia, he made silhouette portraits of notable persons; he visited London in 1789, and there made silhouettes of the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and the Duchess of Devonshire. In 1791 he published a book of 100 silhouettes, the Collection de cent Silhouettes des personnages illustres et celebres.
