The major plasmin inhibitor (serpin F2, 491 aa) in plasma. It will inhibit other serine peptidases such as factors XIa, XIIa, plasma kallikrein, thrombin, and trypsin) and regulates the hydrolysis of fibrin clots (fibrinolysis). Deficiency in α2-plasmin inhibitor causes an autosomal recessive bleeding disorder.
