Type of decoration drawing on the attributes of the Greek sun-god Apollo, first found in Classical Antiquity and revived during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, especially during the reign of Louis Quatorze (1643–1715). Common motifs were the head of Apollo surrounded by sun-rays (the sunburst), the chariot, the lyre, and the sun.
