A tribunal (formerly known as a Social Security Appeal Tribunal) that hears appeals from decisions on claims for social security benefits (see National Insurance). Such tribunals are administered by the Tribunals Service and subject to the supervision of the Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council; appeal against their decisions on a point of law can be made to a Social Security Commissioner.
