(b Montreal, 24 April 1913; d Ottawa, 21 Feb. 2000). Canadian composer, pianist, and teacher. She studied at the McGill Conservatorium, Montreal, and in the USA with Bartók and Hindemith. She taught at McGill, North Texas State College, and the University of Oklahoma, and from 1962 to 1978 at the University of Alberta. Her music, influenced by Canadian landscape and folklore, includes an opera and many orchestral, choral, chamber, and piano works.
