arc welding

Quick Reference

A method of fusing metals together by using an electric current to generate incandescent heat that melts the metals at their junction. Arc welding produces high concentration of ultraviolet radiation and toxic metal fumes. Arc welders must use goggles or a visor that is impermeable to UV radiation to prevent serious ocular damage, but they usually lack protection from toxic fumes, which can lead to occupational disease.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
