Quick Reference

How areas of the earth's surface differ; a study of the way human and physical phenomena vary over the earth's surface. As an approach to geography, areal differentiation has come in and out of favour (R. Hartshorn1939; D. Cosgrove1998; D. Massey2005). D. Livingstone (2003) uses ‘place’, ‘region’, and ‘circulation’ to understand the areal differentiation and spatial flows of scientific knowledge.
