Quick Reference

A model proposed by Armitage and Doll to describe the process of a malignant cancer. They proposed that the disease could be regarded as having n stages, with the time between moving from one stage to the next having an exponential distribution. This model is a pure birth process (see birth-and-death process) with death as an absorbing state (see Markov process).
