Book by Norman Mailer, published in 1968. The work is divided into two parts in keeping with its concern with the nature of its genre. The first, titled “History as a Novel,” records Mailer's reactions as he recounts his participation in an anti-Vietnam march on the Pentagon in October 1967; the second, “The Novel as History,” treats in more generalized fashion the sociopolitical background of the march.
Subjects: Literary Studies (20th Century onwards).
