A small family, confined to the temperate waters of Australia and New Zealand, that comprises two species of fish which are often abundant in the coastal areas, and of considerable economic importance. The Australian salmon, Arripis trutta (not related to the true salmon), is a large carnivorous fish, often exceeding 5 kg in weight.
