Literally, ‘father’. God of the Akamba people of Kenya. Asa is ‘the strong lord’, above the spirits, but also a merciful deity. He is Mwatuangi, ‘distributor’; Mulungu, ‘creator’; and Mumbi, ‘fashioner’. A god of consolation and sustenance, Asa intervenes when human help is slow or ineffective.
