A family of roundworms (See Classification, Animalia, Eumetazoa, Pseudocoelomata, Nematoda). Economically important species in this family are intestinal parasites of humans (Ascaris lumbricoides L.), horses (Parascaris equorum), and pigs (Ascaris suum). All show chromatin diminution (q.v.) early during embryogenesis.
