Sing. safar. Journey travel. In Sufi (mystical) Islam, signifies the spiritual journey of the novice, with a great variety of stages or divisions. One of the most famous divisions is the fourfold journey, which constitutes a complete circle of spiritual realization and mystical experience. The first part is the journey from everyday life (creation) to the Truth (min al-khalq ilal-haqq), referring to the beginning of the journey. The second is the journey with the Truth in the Truth (bil-haqq fil-haqq), referring to the further perfection of the soul of the traveler. The third is the journey from the Truth to the created with the Truth (min al-haqq ilal-khalq bil-haqq), corresponding to the first journey at a higher level. The fourth is the journey with the Truth in the created (bil-haqq fil-khalq), signifying the return of the traveler from the stage of spiritual ecstasy to the world of creation.
