assurance

Quick Reference

On the basis of Rom. 8: 16 some theologians of the Protestant tradition have held the doctrine that believers can be assured of their ultimate salvation. The ground of this assurance and certainty is the work of Christ and his present exaltation; it confers a conviction (1 Thess. 1: 5) of being able to approach God with a true heart in ‘full assurance of faith’ (Heb. 10: 22). The feeling of assurance must be validated by appropriate moral criteria.
