A culture-bound syndrome found mainly among Latino communities in the Caribbean, but also in many Latin American and Mediterranean cultures, characterized by outbursts of uncontrollable shouting, crying, trembling, a sensation of heat in the chest rising to the head, and aggression, both verbal and physical, accompanied by a sense of loss of control, generally precipitated by a psychosocial stressor such as bereavement, divorce, or a family conflict.
