A form of computer-mediated conferencing where participation in a conference does not require the participants to come together at the same time. Typical examples of this include email and newsgroups. With this form of conferencing messages can be sent at any time and read at any time: they do not need to be interlaced or replied to immediately as with synchronous computer-mediated conferencing.
