Quick Reference

(Baron Atkin of Aberdovey, 1867–1944) James Richard Atkin had an Irish father and Welsh mother. He was born in Australia, his parents having decided within months of their marriage to make their life in Queensland, sheep farming. But his father died, full of promise, at the age of thirty, when Atkin was only three, and his mother brought him and his two brothers home to her family in Merioneth, Wales, where Atkin was brought up and educated.
