A level of learning or skill arrived at, as measured against specific targets or criteria, and confirmed by evidence such as test or examination results, or assessment by a teacher. It is part of the vocabulary of the national curriculum, and, as such, is more often encountered in the schools sector than in further education, where ‘achievement’ is more commonly used to convey the same meaning.
