Quick Reference

A tool used primarily for soil sampling, but also for sampling peats and other unconsolidated sediments. The simplest and most universal form has a screw head to bore the soil or sediment. Alternative auger heads are available for more specialized needs. Standard augers sample to one metre depth, but extension rods can be attached, enabling sampling at deeper levels.
