The conditions which an Internet service provider specifies for any user who wishes to make use of its facilities. They usually include the prohibition of: sending libellous material, making an unauthorized attempt to infiltrate another computer system or another user's area on the service provider's system, distributing pornography, distributing copyrighted material, harassing other computer users, sending spam mail, taking part in a Ponzi scheme or a chain letter scam, publishing private information such as credit card numbers, using unauthorized or illegal copies of software, and selling illegal commodities such as banned drugs. Such an agreement also includes standard clauses such as those that specify conditions regarding payment or non-payment of fees to the provider. Often abbreviated to AUP.
