the Latin name of the Spanish Jewish philosopher Solomon Ibn Gabirol. St Thomas Aquinas wrote a work against his view that the distinction between matter and form applied in the non-material as well as the material world. His main work, the Fons Vitae, written in Arabic, was in its Latin translation popular in the Middle Ages.
