In Purāṇic cosmogony and Sāmkhya, avyakta is synonymous with pradhāna and prakṛti, ‘original Nature’ or undifferentiated matter. In the Bhagavadgītā (9.4), Kṛṣṇa characterizes the entire universe as being pervaded by his unmanifest form (avyakta-mūrti).
