A macrolide antibiotic belonging to the azalide group. It may be prescribed as a prophylactic antibiotic prior to invasive dental procedures in children who require antibiotic prophylaxis, as it is available in suspension form. It is taken orally; the most common side-effects are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
