Baal Hammon Struggles with the God of Death

Quick Reference

(Berber, Carthaginian/Tunisia)

Baal Hammon, the supreme being in Carthage, whose name reflects his fiery, solar aspects, was the creator of the universe; he was king of the gods, one of the most important gods in the pantheon, universal god of fertility, god of rain, the storm god. Baal was Shamen, lord of the heavens.

This god of life and fertility struggled with Mot, god of death and sterility. If Baal were to defeat Mot, there would be a seven-year cycle of fertility; if he were defeated, there would be seven years of drought and famine. See also: Gurzil, Tanit.
