Ballet in one act with choreography by Massine, music by Wagner, and designs by Dalí. Premiered 9 Nov. 1939 by the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, with Krassovska, Theilade, Eglevsky, and Platoff. The work, set to the Tannhäuser ballet music, depicts the Wagner-inspired nightmares of Ludwig II of Bavaria. Ballets or divertissements with the same title have been produced by Mordkin, Fokine, and others.
