A mixture of related cyclic polypeptides produced by organisms of the licheniformis group of B. subtilis. Used systemically it is toxic, but used topically it is very effective in the management of skin, eye, or wound infections against Gram-positive cell walls. It is usually used in combination with polymyxin B or neomycin.
