Region of the body consisting mainly of the vertebral column, and the lateral and posterior parts of the ribs, the iliac bones, and the sacrum. The bones, are covered by thick and powerful muscles, the chief of which are the erector spinae. Muscles also pass upwards to support the head, and downwards into the lower limbs.
