‘Brightness’, the earliest book of the Kabbalah, of unknown authorship, which first appeared in southern France at the end of the thirteenth century and in which the doctrine of the Sefirot is adumbrated. Like its successor, the Zohar, the Bahir is a pseudepi-graphic work, sayings being attributed in it to various Tannaim and Amoraim who could not have been the actual authors.
