Describing equilibration or harmonization. Balancing contacts represent the contacts of the upper and lower teeth on the non-working side of a natural or artificial dentition. The balancing side is the side away from which the mandible has moved during mastication. A balancing extraction is the extraction of the same (or adjacent) tooth on the opposite side of the arch to preserve symmetry.
