Quick Reference

Is identified as a king of Kent by the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which described how he was driven out c.825 by Ecgberht, king of Wessex. No charters survive, but a considerable number of his coins are extant. He was presumably a ruler supported by Mercia, whose kings continued to grant lands in Kent 808–23, until Wessex gained supremacy.
