Quick Reference

(1896–1982). Roveretoborn Italian architect, who, with Luigi Figini and Gino Pollini (1903–82), designed the Rationalist De Angeli Building in Milan (1929–32). With Gio Ponti he built the Cima Chocolate Factory in Milan (1932–3). He worked on many exhibition-buildings, notably the Breda pavilions for the Milan Trade Fair (1933, 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954). Baldessari was an exponent of Rationalism, who retreated from Functionalism early in his career. He built an apartment-block in the Hansa Quarter, Berlin (1957–8), and the Fratelli Fontana Technical Institute, Rovereto (1961–73).
