Quick Reference

A modified form of Schmidt camera, designed by the American optician James Gilbert Baker (1914–2005), that uses a secondary convex mirror within the telescope to produce a flat field free from astigmatism and coma (see coma, optical), within a comparatively short tube. The photographic plate, also located within the instrument, faces outwards rather than towards the main mirror, as in a conventional Schmidt.
