(1579–1642). Sicilian poet who eventually settled in Rome, participating in the Accademia degli Umoristi and befriending Tommaso Stigliani, for whom he wrote prefaces. Some of his lyrics are in a classical style imitating Anacreon; others adopt a moderate concettismo. He also produced libretti for two of the earliest oratorios.
