brother of John Ballantyne, a printer in Kelso, printed Scott's Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border in 1802, and continued to print Scott's works. He was bankrupted by the crash of Constable and Co. in 1826. Scott named him ‘Aldiborontiphoscophornio’ from a solemn character in Henry Carey's Chrononhotonthologos.
