Ballet in one act with choreography by A. Messerer, music by Liadov, Glazunov, Rubinstein, Liapunov, and Shostakovich. Premiered 6 May 1961, by the Ballet of the 20th Century, at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. A subsequent production was premiered 17 Sept. 1962, by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, with Plisetskaya, Maximova, Fadeyechev, Vasiliev, and Lavrovsky under the new title Class Concert. The ballet, reminiscent of Harald Lander's Études, is a showcase of classical dancing which culminates in a series of dazzling virtuoso tricks. It has been revived by M. Messerer for the Royal Swedish Ballet, La Scala, and in 2007 for the Bolshoi.
