US dance company founded in 1970 by Tina Ramirez. The repertoire, which is inspired by Hispanic culture, showcases works by established and emerging Latino choreographers and fuses classical and contemporary forms. Under Ramirez it has included works by Alberto Alonso, David Rousseve Ann Reinking, and Alexandre Magno whose The Red Guitar (2005) is a Brazilian spin on the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. Under Eduardo Vilaro, who succeeded Ramirez as director in 2009, it also featured works by himself. Both the company and its associate school are based in New York.
