A Sanskrit poet active at the court of king Harṣa of Kanauj. According to his own account, although he came from a brahmin family, he led a wandering life as a young man, mixing with all levels of society. His works include the Harṣacarita (‘The Deeds of Harṣa’)—an account of Harṣa's early life, the prose-poem Kādambarī, and the Caṇḍīśatakam, which applies kāvya techniques to a religious subject.
