The International Olympic Committee list of banned substances (performanceenhancing substances subject to doping controls) is generally accepted by the governing bodies of most sports. The Sept. 1994 list includes the following doping classes and methods:DOPING CLASSES• stimulants• narcotics• anabolic agents• diuretics• peptide hormones and analoguesDOPING METHODS• blood doping• pharmacological, chemical, and physical manipulationclasses of drugs subject to certain restrictions• alcohol• marijuana• local anaesthetics• corticosteroids• β blockersIt is not a comprehensive list of individual drugs; the ban applies to all compounds related to those on the list. In addition, individual sports federations may have their own list of banned substances.
