Quick Reference

A colloquial and street language term that originally meant unprotected anal sexual intercourse, in particular between disclosed seroconcordant HIV-positive male sexual partners. The word has been generalized to mean unprotected anal sex, regardless of HIV status and sexual orientation. This behavior is most common among persons with low self-esteem and those who are casual about sexual relationships and indifferent to or deliberately engage in extreme risk-taking behavior, a pattern that has serious implications for HIV/AIDS control programs.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
