Is a management style that is said to characterize much of the unionized segment of the British economy. Its central characteristic is tolerance of collective organization amongst employees but reliance on detailed collective agreements and procedures to regulate trade union activity. Management's purpose, therefore, is to ensure that unions do not acquire ‘excessive’ power or restrict the right to manage outside the narrow field of terms and conditions of employment.
