Canadian choreographer. She trained at the National Ballet School in Toronto, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart, focusing on choreography early on in her career. Her style is grounded in the classical vocabulary, but is expanded through contemporary and collaborative techniques. She has created works for Mikhail Baryshnikov, Fang-Yi Sheu, American Ballet Theatre, Sydney Dance Company, the Martha Graham Company, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, and the National Ballet of Canada. From 2005 she was artist in residence at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. Her works include: Watch Her (mus. Pergolesi, National Ballet of Canada 2009) and One of Three (mus. Ravel, American Ballet Theatre, 2009). Since 2002 she has directed her own company Aszure Barton & Artists.
