An injury resulting from a hard, moving object impacting on the tip of an extended finger, suddenly stretching its distal end or middle interphalangeal joint, sometimes tearing the collateral ligament. The injury causes swelling, immobility, and pain. It occurs commonly in baseball, cricket, volleyball, and other ball games.
