A form representing the base of a denture which fits against the denture-bearing area of mucosa. It is used for making jaw relation records by the addition of several layers of baseplate wax to form an occlusal rim. An orthodontic baseplate is usually made of resin, covers the soft tissues, and provides anchorage for springs, clasps, and archwires. A stabilized baseplate is a baseplate lined with a material to improve its fit and stability.
